For the 65th Republic Day, the government on Saturday announced the recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards for year 2014. This year, the President of India has approved conferment of 127 Padma Awards including one duo case from 108 awards in 2013. IndiaSpend has done a quick review of the Padma awards given in the last six decades and here is what we found:

1. A total of 4,066 Padma Awards have been given in the last six decades i.e between 1954-2014.

2 Padma Shri Awards constituted a major part with 64% or 2,608 awards of the total.

3. 29% or 1,184 awards belonged to the Padma Bhushan category.

4. Only 274 Padma Vibhushan Awards have been given till date.
