Custodial Deaths In India Have Risen By 10% Since 2016

Since 2016, 5,476 people have died under police and judicial custody in India. Lack of CCTV cameras and poor infrastructure in rural areas means police often get away with torture. 209 complaints of human rights violations against the police were registered in 2016. Of these, only 50 were charge sheeted and zero convicted.
