How Renewables Other Than Solar And Wind Have Fared
The runaway growth of solar has come at the cost of other renewables that have become relatively less price-competitive
An unintended consequence of the dramatic reduction in tariffs for solar power is that other sources of renewable power such as biomass and small hydropower are no longer competitive, and therefore capacity additions have slowed down. For example, in January 2016, small hydro, biomass and solar had roughly similar installed capacities. By January 2021, while small hydro capacity has hardly changed, solar has increased dramatically. Even wind installations have failed to meet targets.
