In India, it is estimated that approximately 2,50,000 people will die of weather-related deaths each year between 2030 and 2050. Over 2,405 people have lost their lives to major flooding, cloudburst or cyclonic activities while there has also been a simultaneous jump in heat wave occurrences in India.
Over 90% of the weather-related deaths around the globe have been due to intense heat waves, a by-product of global warming. According to the Global Warming Update website, the temperature has gone up by 0.95°C until this September. As global temperature is set to rise upto 5.5°C by the end of the 21st century, developing nations like India will have to be prepared for the worst. The impacts will be on the natural systems and humans. However, it is the direct impact that it has on human lives that is more concerning.
