When Kajal fell ill for the first time, her parents rushed her to a private hospital to seek medical help. After the failure of multiple treatments, she was finally diagnosed with tuberculosis. However, the economic burden that the disease brought with it was too high for her parents to bear. Hence, her medical regimen remained incomplete.
Kajal developed multidrug-resistant tuberculosis by the time her family decided to treat her at a government facility. The two year strict medical regimen led to Kajal dropping out of school until its completed. Kajal is fortunate. Globally, only 10% of children with multidrug - resistant TB get diagnosed and treated. She is one among them.
