India’s external debt has risen over the years from $134 bn in 2005 to $305 bn in 2011. Non Resident Indians (NRI) have been steady contributors to bank deposits in India and thus external debt. The deposit figures have risen in the last five years. NRI deposits have gone up from $41 bn in 2005 to $51 bn in 2011, rising every year, albeit marginally. Here we compare India’s external debt with other countries and see some interesting variations.
