In 2019, Union budget for police modernisation went up 8% in India, but its utilisation is poor. Meanwhile police forces in some parts of the country face a crunch of basic equipment like telephones, wireless devices and transport vehicles.
At the start of 2017, 273 police stations did not have a single vehicle. Among the states that faced the highest vehicle crunch were Telangana and Chattisgarh.
