Women's participation in the Indian elections has been on the rise - both as electors and as contestants. In 2014 general elections, the difference between the male and female voters was just 1.8 %.

"The government now realises that now they must focus on women’s welfare. In recent times, like in the last one month, the present government announced so many different schemes and programs for women. That is a clear sign that they are trying to woo women voters to their agenda." says Flavia Agnes, a women's rights activist and lawyer.

In 2019, over 400 million women are registered as voters. Their vote will be a major deciding factor in the rise and fall of existing and upcoming governments.
