Cabinet gives statutory status to UIDAI, legal backing to Aadhaar initiative
The Union Cabinet has approved the much-awaited National Identification Authority of India Bill, 2010 giving statutory status to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and a legal backing to the unique identity or the Aadhaar initiative.
The Bill cleared by the Cabinet is a revised version of the earlier Bill, which was sent back by the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Finance headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha for re-drafting. Read More
