In rural areas where access to basic healthcare is a challenge, innovations become a necessity. Although the purpose of ASHA workers is to bridge this gap between people and public healthcare institutions, they are overburdened having to work on several health issues and often cater to over a population of 1000.
This is where initiatives like engaging community counsellors becomes crucial. These are local women who take it upon themselves to make sure the mothers and their children in the neighbourhood remain healthy and go to any extent to help them receive medical help as and when needed.
