Government considering law to curb spot, match fixing: Sibal
Consequent to the spot-fixing scandal in the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL), Union Law and Justice Minister Kapil Sibal has suggested introduction of a legislation to curb the menace of betting and other illegal activities in the country's sports arenas. He said, there is a need for a separate law, as the Indian Penal Code (IPC) does not recognise match fixing and spot fixing as offences.
Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to appoint an anti-corruption officer with each of the IPL franchise along with a security officer to monitor the movement of players. Read More
