Nearly 16 crore Indians consume alcohol. The consumption has risen by 38% between 2010 to 2017. There is a chance that this consumption might be turning into an issue of addiction as 1 in 5 Indians are addicted to alcohol and need treatment.

The consumption rate has doubled since 2005. Among states Chattisgarh, Tripura and Punjab have the highest prevalence of alcohol use. The drinking problem is high among men than women. For every woman who consumes alcohol, there are 17 men who drink.

While India makes a huge revenue of $48.5 billion dollars from alcohol, nearly 50% of liver cirrhosis related deaths are linked to alcohol consumption.
