Most of the tiger poaching incidents worldwide were concentrated in Asia.While India is among the top 3 countries by number of convictions, but on average tiger poachers get away with a jail term of a little over 3 years.However, an average jail term for poaching incidents in China is about 9 years.
India can reduce poaching by strengthening laws against poaching, monitoring captive facilities, reduce demand & consumption of tiger parts. There are nearly 4000 tigers in the world . In the latest tiger census, India claims to have over 2900 tigers.
