Exploitative working conditions, poor wages, danger of abuse - domestic help in India- most of whom are women- face many challenges in finding a job and most importantly keeping it.
With no legal protection as workers under India’s labor laws, and no bargaining power due to their poverty, illiteracy and low-skills, domestic workers in India are forced to be dependent on their employers. Official estimates say 39 lakh people in India are employed as domestic help of whom 26 lakh are women.
