Snow Leopards are facing the threat of extinction. These solitary elusive creatures are being hunted out of existence. 450 Snow leopards are poached globally, every year for their hide. In the last 16 years, their numbers have shrunk by 20%.

It’s estimated that there are just 450-500 snow leopards in India according to the count last taken in 1994. In India, snow leopards are spread across Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir And Uttarakhand in the western Himalayas, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in the Eastern Himalayas.

30% of the snow leopard habitat in the Himalayas alone could vanish due to climate change. Habitat loss is the other major threat to snow leopard population. There are only 3386 snow leopards living in the wild across 12 countries.
